Woman may never walk again following collision

The husband of a cyclist who collided with a bus in Scunthorpe town centre said that she might never walk again.  54-year-old Yvonne Bosanquet suffered major injuries in the accident and will require 24-hour care for the rest of her life.  The exact details of the collision are still not known but it’s believed that she collided with the blue Hornsby Travel bus on Fenton Street near the junction onto Cole Street.  The mother of two spent four months in hospital and is now cared for at the Stonecroft House home in New Barnetby.

The accident happened at around 3:15pm on the 31st of January last year. Mrs Bosanquet was immediately taken to the Royal Hallamshire Hospital in Sheffield days before being transferred to the intensive care unit in Scunthorpe 11 days later.  Mrs Bosanquet remained in hospital until the 4th of June.

“She was outgoing, friendly and liked socialising”

Her husband said: “She had severe brain damage, a broken collarbone, a broken sternum and broken ribs.”  He continued: “Before the accident, she was outgoing, friendly and liked socialising.”

The exact details of the accident are being investigated in order to secure the compensation needed for Mrs Bosanquet to receive the care she needs.  The family aim to book a 12-week stay for her at a rehabilitation unit near Sheffield that will provide her with additional physiotherapy, occupational therapy and speech and language therapy. They hope that she will continue to recover and soon return home.
