Work Related Illness & Deafness

The Accident Claimline has experience in dealing with Industrial Deafness and Industrial Illness claims.

Asbestos

Asbestos is a set of six naturally occurring silicate minerals. Sometimes they are commonly known by their colours such as blue asbestos, brown asbestos, white asbestos and green asbestos. It was used widely in the building and construction trade for a number of years until it was banned because the fibres were found to be deadly when inhaled. It was often found in piping, lagging, boiler coatings and insulation boards. The fibres are not visible to the human eye so in some circumstances you might not realise you have inhaled the dust until you become ill many years down the line.

There are 3 common asbestos related illnesses which are:

  • Asbestosis
  • Mesothelioma
  • Pleural Plaques/Pleural Thickening

Asbestosis

Asbestosis is a type of lung disease caused by damage to the lungs over a time following exposure to asbestos. Symptoms could be shortness of breath, a persistent cough, wheezing and chest pain amongst others.

Mesothelioma

Mesothelioma is a type of cancer which can be caused by exposure to asbestos. Fibres of asbestos can sit on the lung lining causing irritation and causing them to be coughed up and swallowed. Symptoms are similar to that of asbestosis and can include fatigue, a high temperature, loss of appetite and unexplained weight loss.

Pleural Plaques/Pleural Thickening

Pleural Plaques are thickenings on the pleura which is the lung lining, they don't cause many symptoms but for some people cause a feeling of breathlessness. Pleural Plaques are benign and are not cancerous.

Pleural Thickening is a lung disease where scar tissue grows and thickens around the pleura, causing tumours. This can lead to chest pains and breathing problems.

Usually with injury claims you have 3 years from the accident date in order to submit a claim. As with these claims the conditions and diagnosis may not present itself until much later on. In these claims the 3 years will start from the date you were diagnosed.

If you have been diagnosed with any of these please give us a call and speak to our friendly team to see if we can help get you some compensation 0800 160 1296.

See our compensation page to check how much you could be entitled to: How much is my claim worth?

Industrial Deafness/Noise Induced Hearing Loss

An injury that affects your senses can have a massive impact on your life and have long term effects.

Working in an environment where it is very loud for long periods of time without the adequate protection can cause serious damage to your hearing.

You would have 3 years in order to make the claim and this would start from the date you were first diagnosed with noise induced hearing loss.
